Course Details

This short (30 minute), self-paced course explores the key technologies, environmental and socio-economic issues, risks, and impacts associated with the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia. You will learn how SEA can support sustainable and responsible development by addressing cumulative and strategic impacts early, strengthening policy coherence, improving climate resilience, and supporting inclusive stakeholder engagement.

This course is designed for those who have completed the Foundations of SEA course, or who have some knowledge of the basic principles, stages, and modalities of SEA.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Identify key technologies used in the production of green hydrogen and green ammonia, and the renewable energy sources commonly used in the process.
  • Identify key environmental and socio-economic issues associated with green hydrogen and green ammonia production, including renewable energy generation, water use, land requirements, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Identify geographical areas that may be unsuitable for green hydrogen and green ammonia production or related renewable energy development.
  • Make subsequent project-level EIAs more efficient and cost-effective by addressing cumulative and strategic impacts early in the planning process.
  • Engage stakeholders and inform policy and planning decisions to support sustainable development and just transition objectives.

You will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
