This short (30 minute), self-paced course explores how Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) contributes to sustainable, transparent, and inclusive planning in the hydropower subsector. You will learn how to design SEA processes that strengthen climate resilience and stakeholder engagement.

This course is designed for those who have completed the Foundations of SEA course, or who have some knowledge of the basic principles, stages, and modalities of SEA. 

By the end of the course, you will be able to: 

• Explain why SEA is important to hydropower.
• Identify existing SEA guidance/guidelines for the hydropower sector.
• Describe the extent of hydropower installed capacity.
• Define the basic technologies used for hydropower generation.
• Identify environmental and socio-economic issues associated with hydropower development.

You will receive a certificate of completion upon successful completion of the course.
